When I was in my twenties, skin care consisted of remembering to wash my makeup off before bed. Acne problems were a thing of the past for the most part and I really gave very little thought to skin care. Beauty over 40 isn’t quite that easy and aging skin care tips are completely different than skim care when I was younger.

Aging Skin Care Tips | Beauty Over 40

There is no way around it. Aging will take a toll on your skin. As our bodies age, our skin loses collagen. That results in skin that is less firm which results in sagging and fine lines. As your skin ages, it also loses the healthy glow it had when you were younger. This can be caused by genetics as well as lifestyle choices like sun exposure and how much coffee you drink.

Beauty over 40 is still possible and following these aging skin care tips will definitely help. It’s never too early to begin.

  • Drink more water. Water flushes toxins from your body and also helps you stay hydrated. Hydrated skin will have a plumper appearance than dehydrated skin.
  • Protect yourself from the sun – always. Tanning is not healthy. It just isn’t. Always wear a broad spectrum sunscreen of at least SPF15. I’m fair skinned so I choose at least an SPF30. Protect the sensitive skin around your eyes with sunglasses.
  • Don’t smoke. Smoking causes wrinkles because it narrows the blood vessels that take blood to the outer layers of your skin. This depletes the oxygen and nutrients your skin needs to be healthy.
  • Bathe in warm water NOT hot and always moisturize your skin afterwards. Hot water actually makes your skin dryer.
  • Eat a healthy diet. Research suggests that diets that are in high in Vitamin C and low in unhealthy fats and processed carbohydrates result in younger looking skin.
  • Watch the stress. Stress can trigger acne and other skin problems.
  • Never sleep with your makeup on. Leaving your makeup on overnight leads to clogged pores and acne.
  • Watch the coffee. Coffee dries out your skin so if you must indulge drink even more water than you are right now.
  • Limit sodium. Eating a diet high in sodium can also dry out your skin. Cut back on salty snacks and be certain to moisturize twice a day.
  • Remember your lips!  Our lips get dried out as easily as our skin and matte lipstick can make it worse . Be certain to choose a hydrating lip product.
  • Change your pillowcase regularly. As we sleep our pillow case collects dirt, oils and dead skin cells from our face.
  • Wash your makeup brushes regularly. A dirty makeup brush just transfers old product, dead skin cells and oil from your cosmetics to your face and back again.
  • Be aware of the hazards of sugar. The collagen and elastin that keep your skin looking young and supple can be damaged by too much sugar.
  • Use skin care products intended for aging skin like L’Oreal Age Perfect Cell Renewal.

As your skin ages, skin cell renewal decreases significantly, leaving your skin looking dull and dry. Age Perfect Cell Renewal accelerates skin cell turnover, bringing millions of new cells to the surface each day. The result is fresher, replumped, visibly renewed skin. The product line includes a Day Cream SPF15, Nigh Cream and Golden Serum.

I have been using these three products now for about two months and I am very impressed with the positive changes I’ve seen in my skin. It definitely feels more plump and hydrated. The dull, dry patches I had around my mouth are gone and my skin has more of a healthy appearance than it did before I started. The Age Perfect Cell Renewal products will definitely continue to be a part of my daily skin care routine.

  1. I absolutely love Loreal products! They always leave my face feeling great!
My biggest tips would be sunglasses/sunblock! Living in a warm, sunny coast I’ve learned it will catch up to you sooner than you think!

  2. I have really noticed a difference in my skin these last few years, after turning 40. I think it’s time to make some changes to my skincare routine and use products that are geared toward women my age.

  3. I love the post and totally agree!  I am trying Burt’s Bees renewal line and am currently using Dermalogia’s skin smoothing cream for my moisturizer (the only “expensive” product I buy).  I wish L’Oreal worked for me, but their products irritate my skin.
